Welcome to the Elon HST 374 course: Genocide in the Twentieth Century.

On this wiki we will work collaboratively to come up with a class definition of genocide. We are not looking for a neat, one-paragraph definition. For one, that's already been done by the UN (see the UN Prevention of Genocide declaration). For two, that's impossible (notwithstanding one, above). Instead, we are going to try to devise a class definition that accounts for variants and does not seek the lowest common denominator. The challenge in this task, of course, is to balance intellectual interest and empathy with pragmatism.
